Recovery Ventilators

Recovery Ventilators are designed to save money on energy costs by utilizing the air already available. Recovery Ventilators come in two forms. First is a heat recovery ventilator, commonly called an HRV or HRV system. Heat recovery ventilation brings in fresh air from outside and will preheat it during the winter or cool it down in the summer.

The second is the energy recovery ventilator, commonly called an ERV or ERV system, works much like the HRV system, helping to keep your energy bills low by bringing in fresh air and heating or cooling where needed. One of the biggest advantages of the energy recovery vent over the heating recovery is that the energy recovery ventilator will help keep the humidity level in your house constant.

One of the most important things about purchasing either an HRV or ERV system, besides the obvious savings in money and saving your HVAC system a hard winter or summer, is that ERV and HRV also filter in the air brought in from outside. The climate conditions where you live will determine whether you need a Heat Recovery Ventilator or an Energy Recovery Ventilator. HRV's are usually recommended for colder climates with longer heating seasons. ERV's are used for warmer more humid climates with long cooling seasons.
