Why do interior wall electrical penetrations draft?
When the wall framing is constructed to create rooms, the electrician, plumber and heating and
cooling contractor drill and cut holes in your framing to pull wires, run water and waste lines and
run heating and air ducts. The outside wind penetrates the home and flows through the
fiberglass insulation and enters the home. That wind flows through the holes drilled in your
framing for electrical purposes and pour out every electrical outlet, switch, phone and cable
plate.
Electrical wiring penetrations in conventionally built homes can be the source of up to 20% of
your home’s drafts. To stop the draft from costing you money and improve your comfort at home
you can change the standard outlets to well sealed electric outlets. They cost very little but pay
off big and quick.
