GU24 base sockets were designed to work with the new LVS (Line Voltage Socket) developed under the auspices of ENERGY STAR. That socket is only used for energy-efficient CFL bulbs, which prevents people from using inefficient incandescent lamps in lamps and fixtures that have the LVS. This situation is mostly applicable to larger office installations.
