The following is a comprehensive list of energy-saving resources including government, non-profit and for profit organizations.


Government:

The U.S government has a treasure-trove of information compiled on energy and issues relating to it. You will find most of the resources within the Department of Energy (DOE), its offices and labs and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Other government agencies also have their own information resources. Here is a comprehensive list:

- The U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy. www.eere.energy.gov

-The Energy Information Administration (EIA) provides policy-neutral data, forecasts, and analyses. Expect lots and lots of energy information. www.eia.doe.gov

- The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). EPA leads the nation's environmental science, research, education and assessment efforts. The mission of the EPA is to protect human health and the environment. www.epa.gov/epahome/learn.htm

- Energy Star is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy with the purpose of helping Americans save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices. www.energystar.gov

- WaterSense is a partnership program sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. It makes it easy for Americans to save water and protect the environment. The WaterSense label makes it possible to choose quality, water- efficient products. www.epa.gov/watersense/

- Home Energy Saver is the website of the Lawrence Berkeley Lab’s Energy Advisor. It is designed to help you save on your energy bills and it is the only do it yourself energy audit site. hes.lbl.gov/

- The California Consumer Energy Center offers the latest information about energy resources and how to use them wisely at home, work and on the road. The “Flex Your Power” section of the website provides money-saving information on rebates, grants and loans for energy improvements. www.fypower.org/

- DSIRE is a comprehensive source of information on state, local, utility, and federal incentives that promote renewable energy and energy efficiency. www.dsireusa.org/


- The California Urban Water Conservation Council under a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. This web site offers information about Water Saving Opportunities.

Associations:

For a perspective from the non-profit and intergovernmental organizations on energy issues you will find the following links quite useful.

- The International Energy Agency (IEA) is an intergovernmental organization which acts as energy policy advisor to 29 member countries in their effort to ensure reliable, affordable and clean energy for their citizens. Its mandate incorporates the “Three E’s” of balanced energy policy making: energy security, economic development and environmental protection. This site is useful if you are looking for international data and statistics. www.iea.org/

- The Alliance to Save Energy is a non-profit coalition of business, government, environmental and consumer leaders. Its purpose is to promote energy efficiency worldwide to achieve a healthier economy, a cleaner environment, and greater energy security. While in the Alliance website, look for the Home Energy Checkup. http://ase.org/

- National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) is a large membership organization strives to protect the planet's wildlife and wild places and to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all living things. Their site offers a consumer guide which shows you how to support renewable energy, and where to find rebates and incentives for energy efficiency and renewable energy in your state. www.nrdc.org/

- The Tax Incentives Assistance Project (TIAP), sponsored by a coalition of public interest nonprofit groups, government agencies, and other organizations in the energy efficiency field, is designed to give consumers and businesses information they need to make use of the federal income tax incentives for energy efficient products and technologies passed by Congress. http://energytaxincentives.org/

- The Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corporation (RBRC) is a non-profit organization dedicated to rechargeable battery recycling. In pursuit of its mission, RBRC also collects old cell phones.
