Energy Cinch’s effectiveness lies in its unique patented 4-layer fabric which has been tested to establish high R-values in reducing heat transfer through windows.

These specialized fabric layers stop three of the four reasons windows transfer heat:
1. Conduction
2. Radiation
3. Air Leakage

Revolutionary: The EnergyCinch shade works in all weather by sealing heat in or out, and easily adjusts to allow light or air in when desired. See how it works.

High R-values: Used over a single pane glass window, Energy Cinch has an R-value of 7.6 making it the most effective product available to stop heat transfer. Learn more about R-value.

Installation

Installation for Quick & Easy Style

The Quick & Easy Shade uses two tension rods to hold it in place - one on the top and one on the bottom. The tension rods can be adjusted to fit most window sizes.

Adjusting the length of the tension rods
Length adjustment is achieved by rotating one side of the tension rod as shown above.
DO NOT BEND THE TENSION RODS. If the rod bends, it has not been adjusted properly.

STEP 1.
Adjust the tension rods so they fit snugly –without bending– in the window casing.

STEP 2.
Remove tension rods from casing and Insert into the shade pockets located at each end of the fabric.

Tip: If the rods are shorter than the width of the fabric, allow the fabric to gather on the rods making sure the ends of the rods are exposed before installing them in the window casing.

STEP 3.
Insert one rod in the window casing pressing it against the top of the casing without allowing the fabric to touch the window glass.

STEP 4.
Insert the second rod inside the window casing pressing it against the bottom of the casing without allowing the fabric to touch the window glass. You are finished.

Making Minor Adjustments

Vertical adjustments
If the fabric is longer than the window casing the fabric will drape or hang loosely. To make the fabric taut, remove the bottom tension rod, roll the excess fabric onto the rod, and place it back in the window casing.

Horizontal adjustments
Can be made by shortening or lengthening the tension rod that, in turn, gathers or expands the fabric.

Opening and Closing Quick & Easy
Remove the top tension rod and place it back in the window casing next to the bottom tension rod, or, remove the bottom tension rod and place it back in the window casing next to the top tension rod.

Adjustments can also be made by rolling the fabric on to either of the tension rods to expose all or part of the window.

See How It works

The Problem

There are four ways heat travels through windows:

1. Conduction - The direct transfer of heat through the window to the outdoors.

2. Radiation - The movement of heat as infared energy through the glass.

3. Air Leakage - The passage of heated air through cracks and around weather-stripping.

4. Convection - When air gives up its heat to the cooler glass and sinks to the floor. This movement draws new, warmer air toward the glass that is in-turn cooled, creating draft.

Curtains, drapes, shades and blinds do not stop the convective loop. Heated air is still able to reach the window glass around the sides, and pulled in through the top or bottom.

The Solution

Energy Cinch’s effectiveness lies in its unique patented 4-layer fabric which has been tested to establish a high R-value in resisting heat transfer through windows.

1. Metalized Mylar® with needled air-trapping polyester fibers reduces radiation by reflecting radiant heat back into a home in the winter and reflecting away solar gain in the summer.

2. Reflective polyethylene vapor barrier creates an impervious barrier that drastically reduces air leakage.

3. High-density needled hollow fibers trap air in spaces between the fibers and layers of the insulated fabric.

4.Moisture resistant lining

In addition, Energy Cinch’s design seals both the top and the bottom of the window casing and can be tautly adjusted to keep the sides in place touching either side of the window casing, effectively stopping the "convective loop".
When installed properly, these four layers help stop the four ways heat travels through your windows: 1. Conduction 2. Radiation, 3. Air Leakage 4.Convection

_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The Results

The insulating fabric used to construct the Energy Cinch was tested by Architectural Testing inc., of York, Pennsylvania, in accordance with standards in ASTM G236. During the test conditions, the interior temperature of the room was approximately 68 degrees F. (20 degrees C.) . The exterior temperature was approximately 18 degrees F(-8 degrees C.). The outside wind velocity was approximately fifteen miles per hour.

The insulating fabric was installed over a wood frame, double-hung sash window having single glazing. A three inch (7.62 cm) air space was provided between the glazing and the shade. The insulating factor (R), that is, the resistance to heat flow, was measured to be about 7.69 for this window shade. Thus, a simple and inexpensive means is available to increase greatly the insulative capacity of a window.

Up to about an 83 percent improvement can be made in window heat loss reduction. Although the insulating factor of 7.69 will not be achievable in all conditions, it is obvious that a substantial improvement is available with the simple shade of this invention. An insulating factor (R) of at least about 7.00 or 7.50 should be easily obtainable.

Learn More About R-Value

What is R-Value?

R-value (R = Resistance) is a measurement of the thermal resistance of a material. The more difficult the heat transfer through the material, the greater the R-value and the more effective the insulation. window an impressive R-value of 7.6, over twice the insulating power of a new double-paned window.
